NOTES: Newt had known that Thomas liked him since Christmas, but now they're finally getting somewhere on that front.
When he'd drunkenly picked up his phone last week and started to text Thomas, this isn't the outcome that Newt had expected. He hadn't expected much of anything, really; maybe some laughs at making Thomas so flustered, maybe a few pictures he'd regret taking in the morning. But getting his friend to finally admit to his feelings and ask him out had been such an unforeseen bonus that Newt was still wondering if it was real. He liked Thomas too, of course—he wouldn't have agreed to a date if he didn't—but he was nervous about crossing the friendship line into unknown territory. Still, life was pointless without some risk.
They'd agreed that Thomas picking Newt up from his apartment would have been strange considering they lived on campus, so it was easier to meet between their buildings and go from there. Even though they had joked about dinner and a movie, Newt had no idea what was in store for the night, or how to dress for it. In the end he settled for jeans and a cardigan over a standard white button-up. It was safe casual wear that would be niceish enough in case Thomas had more in mind than the local burger joint.
